Wise Words In 1-Minute Or Less (# 2)

Gather in summer

“He that gathereth in summer is a wise son.” – Proverbs 10:5a KJV

Here, we’re advised to gather resources while we have time. We need to take the opportunities and do our best to increase what we have.

We should labor and do every work while we have the strength to do it.

Here’s another verse that encourages us to do things with diligence.

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise” – Proverbs 6:6 (KJV)

It’s wise to work with diligence

You can learn that even King Solomon emphasized the importance of learning from a simple creature.

Do you still remember the story the ant and the grasshopper?

In these we can learn three things: (Adopted from Matthew Henry’s Commentary)

1. We must prepare for the present, yes, but we also need to prepare for the future. With prudent foresight, prepare for anything unexpected. Prepare for old age, and much more, we should prepare for the affairs of our souls.

2. Whatever hardship we should face in our line of work, we must endure it. During summer, the weather is hot but the ant still continues to gather food. It is so busy that it doesn’t have time to have pleasure like the grasshopper.

3. We must continue to improve our opportunities. We must work while we can, while the time permits. We must do things now because we might not be able to do it some other time.

Let’s press on to do things for the glory of God.

If not now, when?
